Vagabond Author Gives Away 1000 Free Books
by Anonymous

BANGKOK March 25, 2004 -– Precisely three and one half years ago Nicholas Mistretta stood up in front of a classroom full of friends and peers and announced, quite confidently, that immediately upon graduating from university he would backpack around the world and write a book of his adventures. Well, they didn’t believe it any more than he did. And yet, “Vagabond Zoo” was published last month. To commemorate the occasion he’s giving away 1000 free e-books at his website.

"Vagabond Zoo" is good, not-so-clean fun. It's a trip to ride along in Mistretta's pocket - along with a fatty or two - as he rages across Asia, experiencing the region in a way not found in the guidebooks. Nick puts you right at the scene with his gift for evoking the sights, sounds, smells and exotic buzzes of unique locales on the other side of the world. The sensuous, the repulsive, the hilarious and the outrageous are skillfully woven together into an enchanting tapestry, one in which the muck of a more ordinary existence completely disappears.

BLURB:
“This is why it was so hard to explain to folks back home what I did with all those hours not working or going to school. We didn’t DO anything. Nothing you can properly sum up in a quick email, anyway. “Yes, and today we got stoned and watched an ant jump over a hole in the ground.” Who the hell’s going to believe that this is what backpackers really do? While others were killing time, we were savoring it. No agenda, no responsibility. We could do whatever we wanted but felt no pressure to do anything. No guilt in doing nothing.”

Nicholas Mistretta spent his 30th birthday at work. Delivering pizzas. It was shortly thereafter that he emerged from the fog. After earning a degree in journalism he left for India. He traveled around the world, wrote “Vagabond Zoo,” taught English in Korea. And now he’s hunkered down in Thailand. Doing whatever.
